Happy (belated) new year blog readers! My 2014 has started amazingly I booked my driving test on the 9th January and i passed!!!! :) I'm so happy this means so much to me and is probably the hardest thing i have achieved in such a long time! Next step is to get my first car and also this frees me up for house hunting with Dan! I have a feeling this is going to be a great year!!
Well its been a very long time since i last posted anything here and i would say a lot has happened during the past few months!
Paris
In April i spent a wonderful week in Paris with my boyfriend to celebrate my 30th birthday and our first year together! We traveled by eurostar and was a decent journey and we got the metro to Vavin which is so close to the hotel we stayed at on the Boulevard du Montparnasse. Which is
just nice to walk along and take in the sights and the Parisian culture. We checked into the hotel and decided to walk around the area the weather was glorious I couldn't have asked for more perfect weather the sky was blue and certainly made me realise why springtime in Paris is such a popular time for tourists! The location was ideal it was close to the Jardin Luxembourg which is so pretty and lovely to visit along the road there was so many amazing restaurants. For our first meal we ate at Parnasse 138 mostly based on the menu outside i worked out with what little french i knew that they French served onion soup (of course!) steak in a peppercorn sauce and mashed potato and vegetables and creme brulee which is what i had and i think Dan had pork and i ate his veg! Was delicious and a lovely place to spend our first romantic evening in Paris!
On the day of my birthday the temperatures hit highs of 30 degrees we spent most of the day inside The Louvre museum which was stunning and so huge! there was so much to see we would love to visit again! We had a lovely lunch we both ate ham and cheese baguettes and i had a glass of vin rouge :) in the sunshine on the rooftop cafe and what a wonderful place to sit and relax and enjoy the views after we had finished looking inside we walked from the Louvre along the Tuileries Garden where we
both sat and ate a chocolate ice cream looking across to the view of the
Eiffel tower and Dan got pooped on by a bird haha!
Dan doesn't like salad!
For the evening we decided to eat near by the hotel and we had a meal and lots of champagne and wine at Bistro Romain I had a prawn salad with grapefruit orange and rocket and spinach and a scallop risotto whilst my bf had a pizza and enough bread to feed an army!
The following day was our 1st year anniversary we had to get up really early as we booked day tickets for Disneyland and that included a transfer bus we wanted to leave early so we had time to find the bus stop and order some breakfast while we waited for the bus i was so proud of myself ordering deux petit déjeuners avec deux jus d’orange all in french for the man to serve me reply no problem! and that made me giggle. The bus ride was okay we got to see parts of Paris that we hadn't seen before such as the Notre dame and the Musée d'Orsay i encouraged Dan to get over his fears of elevators by going on the tower of terror i thought i was gonna die! They don't call it that for nothing!! After an exhausting but fun day in Disney we decided to hop off the bus at saint germain des-prés as it was quicker going back to the hotel on the metro we were so tired we ate sandwiches and i finished off some red wine that i bought back from the restaurant the previous night lol
The next day we visited the Musée d'Orsay we were a little bit late leaving the hotel because i slept so well lol probably from exhaustion and all the walking we had done we walked along the river seine and passed the Louvre and we saw stalls along the river people selling art and padlocks where lovers engrave their names or initials and lock them on railings and grates on the side of the bridge and throw the key into the seine river below as a romantic gesture i like that idea! very romantic!
We arrived midday when there was a big (ish) que but wasnt too bad once it had got moving and once we were inside we checked out the restaurant! i had wok du boeuf (beef stir fry) lots of red wine! (theme there!) and dan had a croque monsieur and then we shared a cake which happened to be the best cake we had ever had! it was called a mille feuille and i have regretted having to share it!! lol the art was amazing i love the chevalier du fleurs so beautiful!
I was really impressed that Dan and I had discovered we enjoyed art so much particularly Monet! so we looked in our little tourist guide book to see if there were any other art museums near by that would take our fancy so we took a walk up the Champs Élysées to The Musée de l'Orangerie
Such an amazing place and reminds me of a scene from my favourite film midnight in Paris!
We walked to a restaurant near the Louvre i had a lovely salmon salad and Dan had a croque monsieur (again he loved them!) and for dessert i had grand marnier pancakes they were so good!
In the evening we ate at a lovely restaurant called Chez fernand where Dan said he had the best steak ever! I had bœuf bourguignon and that was amazing i have to put another photo up lol
Our dinner
The next day we walked around Paris we visited the Jardin Luxembourg and continued walking till we found ourselves right near the Louvre again i couldn't tell you what streets we walked down as we were begining to feel a little lost until we saw the huge building we had been passed almost every day so far!
We found a restaurant where we could sit and eat and it was lovely i had french onion soup which was half a bowl of cheese!! mmm! a croque monsier and cherrys and ice cream and Dan had a chocolate fondant cake
In the evening we went to a jazz bar run by an American guy i don't think he got many English visitors as he was closed but didnt want to turn us away so we had a (few) glasses of wine and listened to Mr Freepon warming up before his set.
We ate again at Parnasse 138 for our last evening and the following day we went to the train station and boarded the Eurostar I
Leaving present!
